Girls’ Lacrosse Team Storms into Division 3 Elite Eight

June 5, 2024

The Bedford High School girls’ lacrosse team stormed into the MIAA Division 3 Elite Eight on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Falmouth High, 15-8, on Sabourin Field.

The Bucs are almost certain to face top-seeded Medfield on the road in the next round. Scheduling is expected to be announced on Thursday.

Trailing 2-1 early, Bedford registered six of the next seven goals to take command at the halftime break, 7-3.

The Clippers cut the margin to three early in the third quarter, but the Bucs responded with three more tallies. The visitors never got closer than four.

Head Coach Nicole Lespasio said that despite the seven-goal margin, the game was “a battle for 48 minutes.” She lauded the play of senior goalie Charlotte Dreyfus, who had 14 saves, and the defense in front of her.

“Charlotte definitely kept us in the game along with our defense, which held them for long possessions,” Lespasio said. “Big shoutouts to Emma Dubrovsky, Cassie Morrison, Ashley Cohen, Caroline Luongo, and Jadyn Robinson for being rock solid and taking care of the ball out of our defensive end on multiple occasions.”

Sophomore Tova Yerardi finished with nine goals and an assist plus eight draw controls.

“Our attack had its smartest game all season with their passing and shot decisions,” Lespasio said.

Junior Finley Halloran tallied two goals and three assists. The other Bedford goals were by Sophia Babington, Cohen, Morrison, and Kathryn Schmidt.

A Saturday game would make for a busy and challenging day for Bedford fans. Boys’ tennis will play Dover-Sherborn at 10 a.m. at Woburn Racquet Club if it rains or at noon if it’s dry at the Wedgewood Club. The softball team travels to Tewksbury for a 6 p.m. playoff start.
