We often see questions on whether there are fireworks in Bedford for July 4 in Bedford. The short answer is no. For many years there were fireworks on the VA grounds every five years. Recently the town has moved the fireworks show to Bedford Day in the fall. Having the fireworks show in September allows the show to start at 7:30 p.m. as opposed to 9:30 p.m. making it more family friendly.
Some past Fourth of July traditions in Bedford included the Bedford Minuteman Company’s celebration on the Common with cannons and lanterns back in the early seventies. Kids would decorate their baby carriages and bikes and have small parades. The Strawberry Festival on the Fourth was also a tradition, now moved to June. Modern traditions include a reading of the Declaration of Independence at Memorial Park and festivities at Springs Brook Park (this year including relay races, crafts, water balloon toss, watermelon, a street corn fundraiser and more).
The Bedford Minutemen will be marching in Burlington’s parade this year.
