Bedford Runners Qualify for New England Outdoor Track and Field Championship

June 6, 2024

Bedford High School’s delegation to Saturday’s 77th annual New England outdoor track and field championship will feature two alumni.

Jonathan Garraway and Farrah Scott have qualified for the regional competition, which will take place at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Both are scheduled to graduate on Thursday, though that doesn’t affect their status for sanctioned post-season sports.

Garraway, who will attend Villanova University, has qualified for the 800- and 1,600-meter events at the New England’s. Scott, who has been accepted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, runs one leg of the girls’ four-by-800 relay team.

The other three running the relay are juniors Anna Massaro and Grace Niu and sophomore Zadie Buckley, who also has qualified for the 800. The other Bedford competitor will be freshman Madeline McInnis in the 200.

The annual six-state event is presented by the Council of New England Secondary Schools Principals Association. Each state is allowed six entries per event.
