The Bedford Garden Club will host the owner of Semper Virens Flower Studio of Chelmsford for a presentation about creating one’s own small, but productive garden to produce fresh flowers for floral arrangements.

This event, which is open to the public, will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 25 The Great Road. A social period will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Upper Fellowship Hall. Following a brief business meeting at 10 a.m., guest speaker Mary Beth Hayes of Semper Virens Flowers will presentCreate Your Own Cutting Garden.”

Hayes’ design ethos is to work with nature using the freshest seasonal flowers. Unexpected flowers and greens rule, the more textured, the better!

She will describe easy and reliable plants to grow, soil preparation, maintenance and harvesting, flower conditioning, end-of-season breakdown, and more. She also will make a spiral hand-tied bouquet.

Before starting her flower studio that caters to weddings and other events, Hayes worked as an environmental consultant for 20 years. She brings her concern for the environment to her flower business, and uses recycled materials, on-site composting, and sustainable mechanics to reduce the environmental footprint of her shop.
