What’s Bedford Thinking? Artificial intelligence (AI) – And Your Career

May 3, 2024

Artificial intelligence (AI) is here, and for a lot of people it’s scary. There are all sorts of post-apocalyptic movies in which the machines take over. Think Skynet in the Terminator. Although that may be our fate, the more immediate concern is about AI taking away one’s job.

Technology has often led to major shifts in labor. From the cotton gin to the internal combustion engine, to the PC, labor seems to adjust.

In many ways, AI could be just the next wave of labor shifting. Still, 41 percent of people are very concerned about the possibility of AI causing them to lose their job, or having their hours or salary cut, according to a recent YouGov survey.

Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to be a topic that Americans feel cautious about, according to data from YouGov. Recent surveys asked about the impact that AI is having or will have on different industries. The data finds that many American workers are concerned about the possibility of AI eliminating their jobs. Most also believe that K-12 schools should begin incorporating AI usage skills into the curriculum in order to prepare students for careers.

So, What’s Bedford Thinking about AI and your career?

How concerned are you about the possibility of AI causing you to lose your job or having your hours or salary cut?
