Bedford’s Veterans of Foreign Wars post is not only alive, it is also looking to grow.
Frederick H. Sullivan Post 1628 is sponsoring a free barbecue on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the home of its fellow local veterans organization, the American Legion, 357 The Great Road.
The event is open to all veterans and their families, said Paul Purchia, longtime member of the Patriotic Holiday Committee, who is helping the VFW get the message out.
“If you are interested and not currently a VFW member, please come with an appetite, questions, and a DD214 (document of military retirement or discharge),” he said.
Purchia said Saturday’s event also will be an opportunity to “learn more about our organization and how we help fellow veterans and support Bedford and its neighboring communities. There is a lot more that both Bedford’s veterans’ organizations offer that can impact other veterans and the greater Bedford community.”
Back in 2019, the post sold its club house on Loomis Street at Depot Park to the town. The VFW has been using space at the American Legion to continue its meetings and activities.
Purchia said he can be contacted for additional information at 781-789-8974.
