Bedford’s Town Historian and Historical Society President Sharon McDonald will be the keynote speaker at the Bedford Historical Society’s 2024 Annual Meeting, set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 in the third-floor Great Room of Old Town Hall. This meeting is free and open to the public.

McDonald will enlighten and entertain the audience with another version of “A Cast of Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century Historical Characters,” bringing some of Bedford’s historic figures to life in her storytelling.

Before her presentation, the Society’s 2024 Annual Meeting will be held to update members and to elect Directors of the Bedford Historical Society Corporation.

After a 15-minute refreshment period, when Society members and the public may enjoy baked goods, coffee, and water, President McDonald will call the Annual Meeting to order, give a brief progress report about the Society’s activities during the past year, and officiate over the election of Corporation Directors.

Appointed Town Historian in December, 2015, McDonald has been active in this position ever since, giving talks to Bedford school children and to local and area organizations. She is a frequent speaker at April’s annual Bedford Minuteman Company pole capping, and has served as President and Curator of the Job Lane Farm Museum and a member of Bedford’s Historic Preservation Committee. She is President and a Director of the Bedford Historical Society and volunteers hundreds of hours researching and cataloguing artifacts in the Society’s collections.

An unparalleled storyteller, she is best known for serving for 40 years as the Children’s Librarian at the Bedford Free Public Library, where she was inspired to write her first book, The Bedford Flag Unfurled, published in 2000. Her latest book is Bedford History for Kids published in 2020.
