More Than 30 BHS Athletes Qualify for Division 4 Meet

Thirty-two Bedford High School track and field athletes have qualified for the state Division 4 meet, scheduled for Thursday and Saturday at Westfield State University.

“The team has 19 individual qualifiers, and a large number of them qualified in two events,” said Head Coach Rich Donnelly. Adding the relay competitors, the total is 32. There will be 44 teams competing in the divisional meet, Donnelly added.

Competing in two events will be Madeline McInnis and Mia Free, 100 meters and 200 meters; Zadie Buckley, Grace Niu, and Farrah Scott, 400 meters and 800 meters; and Anna Massaro and Emma Floyd, one-mile and two-mile.

Also, Jonny Garraway, 800-meter and mile; Ryan Fitzgerald, 100 and 200-meter; Martin Nguyen, long jump and triple jump; and Mekhi Volcy, long jump and shot put.

Other girls who qualified were Ciara Shelton, Ariane Sweetland, and Scott, 400-meter; Josie Donnelly and Madeline Ota, 400-meter hurdles; and Sophia Panagiotou, discus. Also competing will be Carter Rauch, 800 meters, and Jacob Hollingsworth, javelin.

These are the members of the BHS relay teams:

  • Girls 4×10: McInnis, Free, Swetha Kaundinya, Eliza Dickert
  • Boys 4×100: Fitzgerald, Reece Gilmartin, Gil Galman, Volcy
  • Girls 4×400: Niu, Scott, Shelton, Buckley
  • Boys 4×400: Hagan Knapp, Vineet Joseph, Ryan Bowman, Platon Gorkavy
  • Girls 4×800: Massaro, Allison Miller, Vivian Liu, Elena Protasowicki
  • Boys 4×800: Will Protasowicki, Oren Brosgol, Garraway, Rauch

The state meet, comprising the top finishers among all divisions, is scheduled for May 30 and June 1 at Fitchburg State University.
