Bedford residents Luana Read and Susan Hill will perform with the Nashoba Chorale at the Groton Hill Music Center at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
“Far Past War” is the concert theme, featuring a diverse group of composers.
Read says, “All of the music we are singing is 20th century or contemporary. ‘I Will Lift up Mine Eyes’ is a setting of some of the psalms by African American composer Adolphous Hailstork. ‘Far Past War’ is the New England premiere of a work by composer Augusta Read Thomas, followed by Ralph Vaughan Williams’ ‘Dona Nobis Pacem,’ a setting of poems by Walt Whitman.”
Luana Read said, “I really like what we are singing and find it very moving. I think Anne Watson-Born is a wonderful conductor and puts together great programs. Even though we are a community chorus, she holds us to a very high standard of performance. I’ve been singing with this group since September 2023. I wasn’t a music major, but have been singing in various groups since college. I love to sing in my spare time.”
Read is equally excited to be performing in the new Groton Hill Performance Center, located on a 100-acre site on Old Ayer Road in Groton. Opened last September, the 126,000-square-foot facility features a 1,000-seat concert hall, the 300-seat Meadow Hall, 35 rehearsal and teaching spaces, and state-of-the-art acoustics. Its resident orchestra is the Vista Philharmonic Orchestra (successor to the Orchestra of Indian Hill). Bedford native and frequent First Parish performer Nathan Kimball is a member of the cello section of the Vista Philharmonic.
