Solar Panels Come to Huckins Farm

Submitted by Steve Wightman:

Huckins Farm residents Steve Wightman and Margaret Wacks have paved the way for future solar installations at HF. They are the first to install rooftop solar panels in this 163-household community.

Other residents indicate they want to follow suit. Energy and Sustainability Committee former chair Bob McClatchy and neighbor John Romeo joined ESC member Wightman to view and applaud its completion on March 15.

The 20 solar panels are designed to supply 120 percent of current annual consumption. The extra 20 percent capacity is for future demand such as charging an electric vehicle, switching to an electric stove or, hot water heater.

The panels are a giant step toward their goal of net zero CO2. These two residents are ecstatic about going greener. They and future owners will have the tiniest electric expense for decades to come.
