The Bedford High School Buccaneers could taste it. They led with 31 seconds to go in the MIAA Division 2 boys’ basketball semifinals and a trip to the state finals.

All they had to do was make their foul shots. But they missed all four, and the Sharon High Eagles drained three pointers after each pair of free throws to steal a 64-63 win at UMass Boston on Tuesday night.

Bedford led for the majority of the game, but it was a battle between these two evenly-matched athletic teams. Bedford led by eight points at the half, but Sharon came roaring back in the third quarter to take a one-point lead into the final quarter.

Camdyn Shoesmith led Bedford’s scoring with 25 points. Justice Buchannan had 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Trevor Forman scored 12 points off the bench on four-of-five three-point shots from outside the arc.

Bedford was 16-3 during the regular season and won three playoff games before tonight’s loss. This was Bedford’s fourth trip to the MIAA Final Four since 1973. Great season, Bucs!
