Purple Up and Support the Month of the Military Child

March 19, 2024

April is the Month of the Military Child, and Bedford High School will be celebrating all month. And on April 12, the day before Spring Break, Bedford High School will Purple Up.

Committed to acknowledging and honoring the sacrifices that military-connected children go through, Bedford High School will be recognizing the 94 military-connected students next month who attend Bedford High School.

BHS School Counselor Brian DeChellis, along with other BHS staff, parents, and other supports, is organizing a breakfast honoring and thanking the military-connected BHS students in April, and raising funds for the event through T-shirt sales and donations

Purple is the color of the military child – the combination Air Force navy, Coast Guard blue, Army green, Marine Corps red, and Navy blue. On April 12, people are asked to wear purple to show support for military-connected children around the world for their daily sacrifices, commitment, and courage.

DeChellis said, “For me, this is about acknowledging and recognizing our students who serve alongside their families.”

All proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts and donations will go towards the event and programming for military-connected students at BHS.

“I am also hoping to raise enough money to buy each of our military students a T-shirt, so donations are welcome,” explained DeChellis.

The T-shirt order is open for next week, ending on March 26. Shirts will be delivered to BHS around April 11, and folks will be contacted via the email associated with the order for pickup information (likely at BHS). Monetary donations can be made through the T-shirt order link with or without the purchase of a shirt.
