Help the ‘Students Assisting Students’ Spring Drive

March 19, 2024

Volunteering is a good way to make a difference in someone else’s life. I believe that our current world needs more empathetic people who are willing to put others first rather than just themselves.

I volunteer with “Students Assisting Students” (SAS), which is a small volunteer organization of parents/caregivers and kids of all ages. We are always looking for new volunteers.

SAS is dedicated to providing college students in need with care bags filled with school supplies, life essentials, and a personalized note of encouragement. The goal is to help college students maintain a positive experience at school while receiving some support from our group.

The members of SAS gather twice a year (once in the fall and once in the spring at the St. Michael Parish in Bedford). The spring donation drive is happening now. Packing day will take place, beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 7.

The spring drive is my favorite because the care bags include comfort foods such as mac and cheese, snacks, hot chocolate, and other treats to help college students during final exams. SAS always wants to be sure students feel accepted and loved by their community.

I volunteer with SAS because I am a student and know how difficult/stressful it can be during the school year. It is hard to imagine what it would feel like to not have the support of my family by my side. When I assemble a care bag, it makes me feel honored to know that I am helping someone in need.
