Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale Opens Thursday, April 4

Springtime in Bedford and everything’s coming up roses and daffodils and tulips – and BOOKS!

The Friends of the Bedford Library spring book sale runs Thursday, April 4 through Sunday, April 7. At the Thursday opening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. , members of the Friends get a sneak preview and can “skip the line” to shop early. Everyone else can come on Thursday evening and join in person, or sign up in advance at https://friendsofthebedfordlibrary.wildapricot.org/Join-Us.

Friends’ member Janice Weichman reports, “We have an abundance of beautiful art books. We are bursting at the seams! The books cover the waterfront from famous, traditional artists to obscure books on photography or Scandinavian design. And, we have many large coffee table art books (that would cost a fortune in a store) that we are selling for only a few dollars. “

Friends Co-Presidents Bonnie Kelly and Susan Rogalski and longtime member Beverley Matthews echo Weichman’s enthusiasm, pointing out a new feature of this year’s sale: “We have a very serious collection of books on chess for those players who would like to hone their skills.”

The Friends remind shoppers that there is a $10 bag sale as the event concludes from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 7.  Weichman notes, “It’s a great deal. Shoppers can help the Friends by clearing off the tables so we don’t have to move books back into storage…lol!”

Proceeds from the sale of books go to support a range of library programs – from author talks to museum passes to the ever-expanding Library of Things, just to name a few.

Sale hours are:

  • Thursday, April 4: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (members only)
  • Friday, April 5: 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 6: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (A complement to Pole Capping, which happens a short walk away at Willson Park)
  • Sunday, April 7: 1 to 4 p.m.
