The current art gallery exhibit at the Bedford Free Public Library is “Paintings” by Daphne Confar.

Painter Daphne Confar creates a narrative in her deceptively simple portraits and landscapes. “As I paint, I am searching for the emotions that we recognize in each other; shyness, boldness, regret, fear, happiness, all those hundreds of feelings that people express in their body language or in the glance of an eye.”

Titles suggest stories: “When Gigi sings, it’s usually a Madonna song;” “Ordinarily Celia would skip the cupcake, but it’s a party.”

Confar has an MFA in painting from Boston University, skills that she uses to bring life to her supply of stories from her grandmothers, from extensive travel, and from a variety of jobs including crewing on a lobster boat and being a pilgrim in Plymouth.

“Paintings” is on exhibit at the Bedford Free Public Library gallery through May 8. The gallery is open during regular library hours.

The Bedford Free Public Library offers exhibit space for emerging artists on the wall across from the Children’s Room. Students are encouraged to apply. Each exhibit generally is up for two months, although there is some flexibility in dates.

Those interested in showing their work should contact Library Director Richard Callaghan at [email protected] or phone 781-275-9440.

All work submitted must be original and not previously shown at the Bedford Free Public Library.

The exhibits and the receptions are sponsored by the Arts Steering Committee, the Friends of the Library, and the Bedford Free Public Library.
