The Bedford High School girls’ 4×800 meter relay team just keeps getting better.
The girls finished in eighth place in Saturday’s All-New England high school track and field meet in Boston. And only one other Massachusetts School – Cambridge Rindge and Latin – had a better finish, landing in fifth place.
Juniors Grace Niu and Anna Massaro, and sophomores Addi Poulter and Zadie Buckley covered the distance in 9 minutes, 48.4 seconds, crushing the BHS record set last weekend by over 7 seconds.
“The school record in the girls 4×800 meter before this season was 10:03.19 from 2015,” pointed out Head Coach Richard Donnelly, over 14 seconds behind this week’s achievement.
Also, at the New England’s, Bedford senior Jonny Garraway placed 12th in the mile with a time of 4:29.75.
“Overall, it was a strong finish for a very good indoor track season,” Donnelly said. The girls team tied for first among the Dual County League small schools and placed sixth in the Division 4 State Meet.
The boys team placed third in the DCL small and 15th in the Division 4 championships.
Besides Saturday’s performance, the track teams broke four other school records this season:
- Carter Rauch in the 600-meter run in 1:24.04;
- Boys’ 4×800 in 8:19.68 (Garraway, Rauch, Oren Brosgol, and Will Protasowicki);
- Garraway in the mile at 4:21.75;
- Niu, Massaro, Farrah Scott, and Buckley in the girls’ 4×400 relay with a time of 4:13.28.
