An Obituary: Violet R. Foster

Violet R. Foster, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2024.

Violet was born Viola Iovino on Feb. 12, 1931 to Dominic and Lillian (Belladonna) Iovino in Lexington.

After graduating from Lexington High School in 1948, Violet attended Hickox Secretarial School in Boston while also working at John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company in Boston for seven years.

In 1955, she began a 32-year career as a civilian employee of the Air Force at Hanscom Air Force Base and received several commendations and Department of The Air Force Outstanding Civilian Career Service awards.

In 1966, Violet married Richard Foster, and they lived in Bedford for 21 years. In 1987, they relocated to Cape Coral, Florida.

Throughout their life together, Violet and Richard traveled extensively and enjoyed antiquing and art auctions. Richard passed away in 2009, and in 2011, Violet returned to Massachusetts.

Violet was known for her kind-hearted and compassionate nature. She was a gifted artist who expressed her creativity through oil paintings and watercolors. She played the guitar, enjoyed cooking and baking and was an avid reader. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh that would fill a room.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Foster; her parents, Dominic and Lillian (Belladonna) Iovino; her sisters, Mary (Iovino) Kennard and Josephine (Iovino) Caporizzo; and her brothers, Pasqualino Iovino and Dominic Iovino Jr.; two nieces and two nephews.

She is survived by her sisters Frances (Iovino) Falcione, Jean Iovino, Esther (Iovino) diLuca, Ruth (Iovino) Benoit, and Nadine (Iovino) Kostriza as well as 30 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15 at Shawsheen Cemetery on the corner of Shawsheen Road and Great Road in Bedford.
