New Youth Lacrosse Coach Played for College, Pro Teams

February 13, 2024

A former intercollegiate and professional lacrosse player will coach the seventh and eighth grade boys’ team for Bedford Youth Lacrosse this spring.

Ben Spencer was a midfielder for the University of Massachusetts – Amherst Minutemen between 2016 and 2019, totaling 67 career points. He also played for the Boston Cannons in 2020 when they won the Major League Lacrosse championship.

“Bedford Youth Lacrosse is looking to deliver an immersive lacrosse experience to this group as they prepare to play at the next level. Coach Spencer was on top of our list of coaching candidates,” said Christopher Rucker of the Bedford Youth Lacrosse Board.

Rucker said he met Spencer when he worked as director of marketing and communications for the Cannons.

Spencer, who grew up in California, is also a coach for the Top Gun Fighting Clams club lacrosse team based in Acton.  His father also played at UMass Amherst and coached at Fairfield University for 13 seasons.

Lucas Tucker, a 2020 Bedford High School graduate and former lacrosse player, will be the assistant coach.
