Letter to the Editor: Praise for the Fire Station Building Committee

Submitted by John McClain

I have attended the two most recent meetings of the Fire Station Building Committee, and I was impressed both times by how knowledgeable the members are, and by their dedication to giving Bedford and its firefighters the best possible fire station. I was also impressed by their commitment to finding solutions that will serve the needs of the Bedford Fire Department while also fitting in with the Historic District. Both meetings were informative. The January meeting went into some detail about what goes into fire station siting. The February meeting got to the bottom the underground vault issue, relaying a conversation with retired DPW director Rich Warrington that confirmed that the vault is in fact on the other side of Bacon Road. Mr. Cohen is an excellent chair. Bedford is lucky to have this group of citizens providing oversite for this project, and an outstanding team of town employees executing it.

I also want to complement the Architect, Sean Schmigle. We’re fortunate to have such an experienced design professional working on this project.
