Fleischman Closes Final In-Person Meeting on Select Board

The final minutes of Monday’s meeting of the Select Board belonged to Margot Fleischman, as she completed the final in-person meeting before her term expires on March 9, the day of the town election.

Fleischman, who announced in December that she would not be a candidate for re-election, said her four terms on the board were “one of the most meaningful and formative experiences of my life.” She cited colleagues and town department heads as “exceptional,” adding that it was a “privilege working with so many wonderful people.”

“It really does feel like a retirement,” she reflected. “This is the right time for me to say goodbye, bittersweetly.”

Fleischman served two terms on the Planning Board before she was elected to the Select Board in 2012.

Board member Shawn Hanegan said he always has been impressed by Fleischman’s preparation and knowledge. Fellow member Emily Mitchell said, “Thank you for being such a tremendous role model to me and to so many folks in town. You have made a huge impact on Bedford, on all of us, and we are grateful.”

Fleischman is expected to be succeeded by School Committee Chair Daniel Brosgol, who is running unopposed for the position.
