Everyone is invited to a night of live, toe-tapping Appalachian Folk music and a pulled-pork supper at Bedford’s eighth annual West Virginia Music Festival.

Hosted by Bedford’s First Church of Christ, 25 Great Rd., this annual benefit will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. The popular West Virginia music duo of Tim & Maggie will perform live Early American/Appalachian folk music.

Admission to the 2024 West Virginia Music Fest (including dinner) is $20 per person ($40 per family). The buffet will feature pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, corn bread, plus a variety of desserts. (Vegan chili will also be served.) There is plenty of free parking located behind the church.

First Church will donate all proceeds to support roofing projects at the Appalachian South Folklife Center in Pipestem, W.Va.

Highlighting the festival is the music of Tim & Maggie, who hail from Athens, W.Va. They have spent decades studying and performing Early American/Appalachian music, as well as tunes from England, France, Ireland, and Scotland. They play a variety of instruments, including banjo, guitar and flutes. Tim & Maggie will perform three musical sets during the evening: 5:30 to 6 p.m.; 6:30 to 7 p.m.; and 7:30 to 8 p.m.

For almost 10 years, First Church’s West Virginia Mission Project has helped fight poverty in Appalachia by supporting nonprofit organizations in and around Princeton, W.Va., located in one of the poorest counties in the state. These community groups are dedicated to making home repairs for local residents, supporting after-school and summer children’s programs, and hosting arts activities for at-risk youth.
