Bedford’s director of housing and economic development will retire, effective March 8.

Jeff King said he plans to continue working a few hours a week to help his successor with the transition. The position was posted on Wednesday on the town website, featuring a salary range of $98,000 to $112,000.

King, 65, said his decision is personal and not health related.

“I appreciate working with the community and with the team we have on board,” he said, and that made the decision more difficult.

He succeeded Alyssa Sandoval as economic development director in March 2022 and the town’s affordable housing programs were added to his portfolio later. King also was town government’s point person in the approval and execution of the town’s cultural district. “I am wearing three hats, and I think we have been making progress in all three,” he said.

Before coming to Bedford, King spent about 25 years working in the fields of economic development and grant writing in Oregon.
