Bedford High School winter sports are on the threshold of March Madness as all four varsity hockey and basketball teams have qualified for MIAA post-season tournament play.
Indeed, the madness actually begins in February when the Shawsheen Tech-Bedford High cooperative girls’ hockey team, seeded 28th with a record of 13-6, travels to fifth-ranked Hingham on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. faceoff at Pilgrim Arena in the opening round of Division 1 play.
The rest of the lineup is at home, beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday at The Edge on Hartwell Road when the 14-4-2 BHS hockey team, seeded 16th, entertains Marlboro in Division 3. The 17th-seeded visitors are 12-8 in the regular season. Friday is a Division 2 basketball doubleheader at the BHS gymnasium, co-starring two central Massachusetts opponents. The 17-3 BHS girls’ team, seeded 16th, hosts Leominster at 5:30 p.m. The 16-3 boys’ opening-round game will follow around 7:30 p.m. vs. Grafton High School. Bedford is ranked 14th; Grafton, at 14-6, is 19th.
