BHS Basketball Teams Face Boston Latin

February 8, 2024

After a split with Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, the varsity basketball teams at Bedford High School move into the last Friday night of the regular season schedule facing Boston Latin.

The boys, following their third loss on Tuesday, host Latin on Friday. It will also be Senior Night.

The girls won their 13th game on Tuesday, 49-36 over a pesky Cambridge team that crawled back into contention a couple of times. They travel to Latin seeking their 10th straight victory on Friday.

In girls’ action at home on Tuesday, the Falcons led only once, 3-0. But they were a tough opponent, attempting nine more shots than the Buccaneers thanks to an unreal 16 offensive rebounds.

Bedford led 11-3 after a quarter, and Coach Jim DeBenedictis got some minutes from his reserves during the second quarter. It took most of the third quarter, but Bedford increased its six-point halftime lead to 16 points after three periods, as Cambridge missed 13 of 15 attempts.

Then the Falcons started the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run in the first 80 seconds. But they never got closer than seven, and finally faded down the stretch.

The Bucs only converted 17 shots from the floor, nine of them from three-point land, and added six foul shots. Ashley Cohen scored 24 points, 16 on the second half. Mackenzie Tierney added 13.

Meanwhile, at Cambridge, the Falcons gradually pulled away in the second half, extending a 27-24 halftime lead to 45-35 after three quarters. Justice Buchannan was Bedford’s leading scorer with 21 points, and Camdyn Shoesmith had 18 points and 18 boards. The Bucs are 12-3.
