The economic data all suggest the economy is doing well. Low unemployment, inflation subsiding, at least according to the data things seem to be humming along.
One of the benchmarks economists often use as to people’s perception of their own financial health is how they feel about spending for the holidays. According to a recent Gallup Poll, Americans estimated that they’ll spend an average of $100 more on Christmas or other holiday gifts than last year. On average, Americans expect to spend $975 on holiday spending this year.
