Asbedian said there are already 23 applicants for the Class of 2028, with almost eight full weeks before the application deadline.

According to the school, “The application process is comprehensive, taking into consideration various aspects of a student’s academic and personal history. Factors such as attendance, scholastic achievement in seventh and eighth grade, disciplinary record, a teacher or counselor recommendation, and results from an interview, contribute to the overall assessment. A detailed outline of the application process is available at www.ShawsheenTech.org/Admissions.

“As applications are reviewed, applicants will be numerically ranked based on the evaluation results. Students are encouraged to apply on a rolling basis until the Feb. 1 deadline to be considered in the first round of acceptance. Late applicants will be automatically placed on a waitlist along with those who did not secure a seat. Notifications will be sent to all applicants in March for both accepted and waitlisted status.”

Superintendent Tony McIntosh recently said at a monthly staff meeting “We have double the applications we had at this time last year. I hope to see us reach 500 applicants.”

Located at 100 Cook St. in Billerica, Shawsheen Tech offers a range of vocational programs, including Arts Communication & Technology, Construction, Transportation & Product Development, Health Services, and Advanced Manufacturing.
