Select Board Convenes Tuesday for Annual Goals Meeting

The Bedford Select Board’s annual meeting to discuss and set goals for the coming fiscal year is scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Tuesday’s session will be in Room 5 of the Middlesex Community College library, 591 Springs Rd.

Historically, the board has convened away from its Town Hall meeting room, hoping that a different environment will encourage creative thinking and exchange of ideas.

The board also will review progress toward fulfilling goals set at a meeting a year ago for the current fiscal year.

“We’ve made great strides in the projects and goals we’ve developed with the input and collaboration from the town manager, and we’re looking forward to continuing this process to ensure a vibrant and thriving future for our town,” Board Chair Bopha Malone said on Monday.

Board members, with input from the town manager and his staff, rank objectives in several categories: infrastructure, finance, transportation, community investments, and public engagement.

Among the variables that factor in prioritizing are the status of multi-year projects and the capacity of town departments to add to the workload.

The highest-ranked goals for this year were the Minuteman Bikeway extension, design of the fire station replacement, an updated pay and classification plan, strengthening the food bank, and expanding access to public meetings.

Also, the Select Board adopted two overarching goals that impact multiple categories: diversity, equity, and inclusion; and sustainability.
