Bedford Police Department Hiring Exam Scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 6

The Bedford Police Department is no longer a civil service agency and is having its own examination to hire new police officers. Starting salary upon completion of the police academy is $83,000 with an excellent benefits package.

The hiring exam date is Saturday, Jan. 6, starting at 9 a.m. at the Bedford Police Department, 2 Mudge Way, Bedford. 

Candidates must register no later than Tuesday, Jan. 2 in order to participate in the examination process. Only candidates who successfully pass the examination will be considered for employment. The exam is only one factor used in the hiring process.

Candidates must be a U.S citizen, at least 21 years of age, and possess a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license. A Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms is a requirement for the position.

Candidates with a high school diploma or GED are eligible to apply, however, candidates with a degree from an accredited college or university or with a military background are preferred. 

Candidates will be subjected to an extensive background investigation, medical/physical evaluation and psychological screening.

Candidates who are indigent and receiving government assistance may qualify for a fee waiver. Proof of current benefits of government financial aid due to indigence is required. Contact the Bedford Police Department if you believe that you qualify for a fee waiver due to indigence.
