An Obituary: Philip J. Keohan

Philip (Phil) J. Keohan, 94, of Bedford died on Dec. 7, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Lucy R. Keohan (deceased) and loving father of Philip J. Keohan, Jr. and his wife Sue of Wellfleet, Susan L. Keohan and her husband Todd C. Jonz of VT, Patricia A. Keohan Nucefora and her husband William A. of Wellfleet, Timothy W. Keohan and his partner Miranda Levy of Wellfleet, and Joseph Keohan and his husband Roberto Portocarrero of Boston. Phil was also grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of seven.

Phil was born in Boston and grew up in Medford. He played hockey for Saint Clement School in Medford. He attended Northeastern University where his co-op job was at MIT.

Phil was drafted into the U.S. Army after graduating and served in Pennsylvania, then Virginia. After completing military service, he returned to MIT where he rose to comptroller of the university.

Phil and Lucy, who were married in 1952, bought a summer home in Wellfleet in 1962. They raised their kids splitting time between Bedford and Wellfleet. After putting all the kids through college, they began travelling and enjoyed such locations as London, Cairo and Zermatt.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13 in the Our Lady of Lourdes, 2282 US-6 in Wellfleet, followed by burial in Oakdale Cemetery, Gross Hill Road in Wellfleet. Family and friends are invited.
