An Obituary: Bernard ‘Beaver’ Ribas

Bernard “Beaver” Ribas, 95, of Naples, FL, and formerly of Bedford, died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 4, 2023. Bernard was born Dec. 28, 1927 in Lawrence, MA and was the son of Rose and Albino Ribas and the brother of Mary Luciano, Eileen DeBitetto, and Geri Burnham, all who predeceased him. 

Beaver graduated from Lawrence High School in 1945. He began his retail career as manager of Mickey’s Sporting Goods on Essex Street in Lawrence.

In the late 1950s, he moved his family to Bedford and became a manager of Marshalls in the Bedford Shopping Center. A few years later, he had the opportunity to become a partner with that business.

Bernard was very active throughout his life, enjoying scuba diving, tennis, skiing, and swimming (he was doing laps in the pool well into his 90s). He also loved to travel, visiting many countries around the world.

He leaves his wife Susan, sons Bruce Ribas and Scott Ribas; daughters Heather Potter and Zandra Ribas; grandchildren Melinda Palumbo, Zach Ribas, Sarah Ribas, and the newest addition, Eleanor Potter. He also leaves nephews Lou Luciano, Paul Luciano, David Burnham, and nieces Sharon Luciano and Joanne Wilde.

Beaver was predeceased by his first wife Gladys Urquiza Ribas. 

Bernard had a private gathering for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Dec. 2.
