On October 2 several hundred protestors rallied at the State House in Boston against expansion of private hangars for private jets at Hanscom Field (not Hanscom AFB) or at any other airfield. But this was only the beginning.
Over 10,000 signatures were gathered by this coalition of groups across Massachusetts and were presented to the Office of Governor Maura Healey, asking her to influence Massport against this project.
The proposed expansion of 27 hangars is exclusively for the use of private luxury jets which produce more than ten to twenty times the emissions per passenger mile as commercial jets. This is a luxury for the wealthy few at the expense of us all.
However, it is not too late to sign the petition to Stop Private Jet Expansion at Hanscom. Signature gathering is continuing, and we ask that you sign online at spje.org/sign.
I have signed the petition, and find we need to have a broader discussion about the future of the area with eveyone concerned. Approach matters! Any pilot will tell you that! The way we come together as a community to make long term descisions matters! All voices of dissent are valid. Especially when there may be better options to be discussed.
Then you better fight like hell to keep the Air Force there. Without them Massport would turn Hanscom into a commercial airport overnight. It would destroy everything for miles around including the Minuteman National Park.
