I support Article 7, a citizens’ petition for an alternative site for fire station. Many Bedford residents oppose putting the fire station at the 139 Great Rd. because this site sits in the historic district area. The two remaining houses at 139 Great Rd. and 133 Great Rd. are on the National Register of Historic Places. The houses were built in 1836. It does not make sense to put a fire station in the historic district area.
I recommend that the town consider an option to build a fire station on the North Road site near the gas station. People in Bedford have strong support for alternative site for a fire station on North Road .
The other option the town should consider is to expand and renovate the current fire station at 55 Great Rd.
Please come to Special Town Meeting on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at Bedford High School and please consider vote yes on Article 7 – alternative location for fire station. We will listen to people of Bedford who will offer the town a list of alternative sites for a fire station.
