Troop 194 held its annual fall recognition night with a pasta dinner and an awards ceremony at the American Legion Hall in Bedford on Oct. 24.

About 90 people attended, including honored guests such as the Webelos from Cub Pack 194, the Massachusetts State Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Marines, and the U.S. Air Force.

Abby Thibodeau, who is the new camporee coordinator, also attended. She has the distinction of having earned both the Gold Award in Girl Scouts and the Eagle rank. Troop 194’s most recent Eagles – Quinn Ricci, Neal Finnegan, and John Giaquinto – were also in attendance.

Scoutmaster John Mitchell began the ceremony by welcoming everyone for coming. Assistant Scoutmaster Jon “OC” O’Connor recognized those who helped at the June American Legion camporee.

Assistant Scoutmaster Ken Scheyder, assisted by Senior Patrol leader Luke Noble, presented tenure pins and Honor Camper certificates. Since 1965, Scouts from Troop 194 have logged at least 1,312 days and nights of camping.

Adam Silver, who earned first place this year, received both an honor camping certificate and a trophy. Michael Fairchild came in second place, Bennett Todd placed third, Elliott Smith was fourth, and Theo Mattson took fifth place.

Adult year pins were also handed out. Assistant Scoutmaster Peter Ricci spoke and handled the honors.

Committee Chairman A. Coady presented Life Scout Owen Brough with the Scout of the Year plaque and also presented Scoutmasters/active leaders Jon “OC” O’Connor, Peter Ricci, and Ken Scheyder with Scoutmaster Emeritus rocker patches.

Esteemed Advancement Chairman David Todd handed out certificates and recognized the scouts for their recent advancements.

Many people helped to make the evening a big success. Thanks go to cooks John Fernald, B. Callahan, Dan Grant, Gregg Mattson, Beccy Ricci, and Stephanie Fairchild for a tasty pasta meal and Dianne Healy and the folks at Graniteville Pride in Westford who donated the sauce. Thanks to Patricia Fabian and her team for creating and providing the salads as well as to Paula Verrier and D. Shannon for helping to set up the hall. The centerpieces used this year were provided by the American Legion.

The scouts also thank Kyle Smith for the delicious cake.

Life scout J. Mitchell did the benediction and Scoutmaster J. Mitchell closed out the evening’s activities with a Scoutmaster’s minute. The Troop 194 committee thanks everyone who supported the event.

Bedford Scout Troop 194 was started in 1965. Since then, 497 boys have been members.

Congratulations to Ken Scheyder who wrote this article. He listed himself as an ASM, but clearly was awarded a prestigious Scoutmaster Emeritus position of office. He must have forgot to mention his 56 years of Scouting experience as a Scout and leader. As the most junior Scoutmaster Emeritus ,for years of service, I take it upon myself to point out those with DECADES of service to the community.
THANKS KEN
