Join the team from Bedford Public Work this coming Saturday, Oct. 7 for one of two Fall Special Collection events at the Compost & Recycling Center on Carlisle Road.
Saturday’s headliner is latex paint recycling, provided by ReCOLOR Paints. The traditional method of disposal for latex paint involves drying it out and disposing of it with regular household trash. This works well for empty or mostly empty cans. However, DPW often hears from residents that have been “gifted” paint from a previous owner or have purchased paint they no longer use. This liquid paint can be reblended into usable colors that ReCOLOR sells online and at independent paint retailers.
Paint is also made available for Habitat for Humanity projects. Residents can really “close the loop” on reuse when they recycle paint with ReCOLOR and then purchase reblended paint for the next home paint project. Learn more about this innovative process or buy paint at www.recolorpaints.com
Residents can bring up to 30 gallons (5-gal, gallon or quart size, but no sample please) of liquid latex (water-based) paints to the event. No oil-based paints or stains, no marine or automotive paint and no paint thinners or solvents. Please view the FAQ document for full details.
On-site paper shredding and propane tank recycling will also be offered this Saturday.
The events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Compost & Recycling Center, 108 Carlisle Rd.
Residents are asked to stagger their arrival alphabetically by last name to avoid traffic impacts on Carlisle Road and Winterberry Way. A-F is 9 to 10 a.m., G-M is 10 to 11 a.m., N-Z is 11 a.m. to noon. All residents are invited between noon and 1 p.m.
A blue resident sticker or proof of residency is required to attend. Bedford residents only – no commercial waste or vehicles. Skip the wait and pick up a free resident sticker at the DPW Building, 314 Great Rd. during business hours. Please bring your vehicle registration or license plate number and proof of residency when requesting a sticker.

There is no general-purpose dumpster on site and residents will be asked to bring unacceptable materials back home with them. Other resident drop-off areas of the Compost & Recycling Center will be open during the event, including yard waste, cardboard, glass, scrap metal and the new bulky rigid plastics drop-off (large/oversized, single resin plastics only) as well as the Universal Waste shed for safe disposal of mercury-containing items, including fluorescent bulbs and rechargeable batteries.
