The Bedford Planning Board has approved a special permit for a two-family dwelling along Fletcher Road, behind the parking lot of the commercial building at 60 The Great Road.
Owners Peg and Ted Bernhardt also operate the adjacent home services business Right at Home. The building was once a branch of Leader Federal Savings Bank.
The 23,500-square-foot lot includes parking for 22 cars. According to provisions of the approval, the parking area will be reduced and plantings and fencing added.
The proposal still needs approval from the Historic District Commission and also must satisfy Department of Public Works engineering requirements. The applicants also will report back to the Planning Board on the possibility of installing solar panels and reducing or eliminating gas appliances.
Under the provisions of The Great Road Center subdistrict zoning, the new building is considered “horizontal mixed use.”
