The BEST Color Run! It’s a Blast!

And, they’re off! The kickoff of the 2019 BEST Color Run! Image Bedford Snapshots, 2019

There is just under one month until clouds of color fill the fields at John Glenn Middle School for the greatly celebrated community event- the Annual BEST Color Run! This year’s event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The BEST Color Run is the largest fundraiser for BEST/PTO, the parent and caregiver’s association supporting the students, families, and staff of Bedford’s Davis (PreK – grade 2) and Lane (grades 3 -5) schools. Jana Magnus, a member of the Color Run Event Committee, explained, “Since 2016, the Color Run has raised more than $100,000 to fund educational enrichment activities and physical improvements at our two elementary schools.”

Dawn Kociubes, President of BEST when the event started in 2016, is thrilled that the event continues to be such a success.

“I love come back and help out at the Color Run as a community volunteer. The BEST planning committee works incredibly hard to pull all of the pieces together behind the scenes. Watching the families run the course and get sprayed by their teachers is such a joy.”

And the event is a blast! Literally! As folks, around 700 participants annually, travel through one of two courses they are blasted with colored powders along the way. There’s a 1K course intended for Davis School age children or a 3K course intended for Lane School children – though all are welcome to participate in the event as “runners” or volunteers. And if teams of friendly volunteers cheering and spraying non-toxic powers isn’t your idea of fun, this year participants can register as Sensory Friendly and receive a wristband indicating they’d rather not be sprayed.

This year’s event will include raffles, lawn games, food, music, and more, thanks in part to generous local business sponsors. The 2023 BEST Color Run is sponsored by Bedford Family Lawyer, Carleton-Willard Village, Chestnut Dental, Engels & Volker Realty, Suzanne & Company, Emerson Dental, Callahan Karate, Bedford Pediatrics, Frank W. Thompson Masonic Lodge, Middlesex Savings Bank, Nick Squared Detailing, The Residence Inn at Bedford, Taurus Health, Zoya Designs, Bedford TV, and the Beth Sager Group.

There is still time to sign up to participate this year to travel through the courses or as a volunteer.

Registration to run, walk, roll, stroll, dance, skip, hop, and laugh through the course as a participant is open through Labor Day. People who register early will get a swag bag including a t-shirt. Individual ($30) and household ($90) registrations and additional food tickets can be purchased online before Sept. 4 here: https://runsignup.com/Race/Events/MA/Bedford/VirtualColorRun2021#event-707763
