Superintendent Update – Aug. 11

Superintendent Update from Bedford Public School Superintendent Cliff Chuang 莊 宏 毅.

An Update on Superintendent Updates

My predecessor, Phil Conrad, established the wonderful tradition of regularly updating the community each Friday during the school year. Given the start of the school year, I plan to provide weekly updates on Fridays. Aug. 25, Sept. 1, and Sept. 8 before settling into a roughly twice-a-month cadence, usually on the Friday after each School Committee meeting. We will provide additional information about bus routes and other start-of-school activities in upcoming updates. I welcome ongoing feedback on the frequency, length, content, and timing of these updates.

“Scoops with the Supe” continue on Thursdays in August

It was wonderful to meet the many families who came out for the first Scoops with the Supe events at Lane and Davis Schools the past two Thursdays. I have enjoyed my conversations and encourage parents to follow-up with me via email so that I can follow-up on questions. Three additional events remain–feel free to come again if you’d like, as we have plenty of frozen treats! The final event in Boston will feature a full-fledged ice-cream truck from the Tipping Cow, so I encourage Bedford and Hanscom families to join Boston families for a gourmet ice cream treat.

  • Thursday, Aug. 17: John Glenn Middle School, 5 – 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 24: Bedford High School, 5 – 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 31: ABCD Parker Hill Fenway, 714 Parker St., Boston, MA 02120
    • Tipping Cow gourmet ice cream from 4 – 6 p.m. followed by Back to School Night from 6 – 7 p.m. for Boston families.

From Around Town: Take the Mental Health Survey (through September 1, 2023)

The Bedford Health and Human Services (HHS) Department is conducting a mental health survey open to all members of the Bedford Community. National and Statewide trends have shown a significant increase in symptoms of anxiety and depression over the past several years and the increasing need for mental health services. HHS seeks to gather data regarding the community’s level of anxiety and depression as well as utilization of mental health services. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete and will help HHS plan for services, community presentations and grant opportunities. The survey is confidential and no emails or identifying information is being collected. Please feel free to complete and share. The survey can be accessed here.

Thanks for your ongoing support of our students, families, and schools.
