Health Director Reports ‘Bit of an Uptick’ in Covid

August 11, 2023

Bedford Health and Human Services Director Heidi Porter told the Board of Health this week that “we are seeing a little bit of an uptick in Covid. We’re just keeping our eye in it.”

One indicator, she said, is that the VA Hospital has resumed reporting case numbers to the Health Department office after a hiatus.

The priority, she said, is to try to locate sources of Covid test kits, although “we are not getting a lot of requests for tests.”

In answer to a question from board member Bea Brunkhorst, Porter said test kits at the Bedford Free Public Library expire at the end of September.

“We will explore to see if we can get access to test kits,” she said, noting that they can be purchased at pharmacies.

“We haven’t heard when [an updated] vaccine will be available,” Porter added. It will not be offered by the department at its Bedford Day booth on Sept. 23, she said, adding that the fall flu clinic is scheduled for Oct. 21.
