Superintendent’s Update – July 28

The first of regular Superintendent Update’s from Bedford Public School Superintendent Cliff Chuang 莊 宏 毅.

Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,

It has been a wonderful first month getting to know the Bedford Public Schools team and various members of the community. It is already clear to me that there are many thoughtful, committed individuals who care deeply about the success of our children. While I continue to meet with district, school, and community staff and leaders, I am also looking forward to getting to know students and families—from Bedford, Boston, and all across the country via Hanscom Air Force Base. Here are a few ways we can meet in August:

  • Scoops with the Supe! In partnership with our new Director of Food & Nutrition, Tom Houle and his team, we will be hosting get-to-know you gatherings with ice cream and other frozen treats on Thursdays in August outside of each school and in Boston. Director Houle comes to Bedford with over 25 years of school nutrition, including serving in multiple leadership roles for the School Nutrition Association of Massachusetts. We are excited to welcome him to the team. Please stop by to say hello to me, Director Houle, and other district/school staff at these dates and location:
    • Aug. 3: Lane School, 5 – 7 pm
    • Aug. 10: Davis School, 5 – 7 pm
    • Aug. 17: John Glenn Middle School, 5 – 7 pm
    • Aug. 24: Bedford High School, 5 – 7 pm
    • Aug. 31: ABCD Parker Hill Fenway, 714 Parker St., Boston, MA 02120
      • Ice cream from 4 – 6 pm followed by Back to School Night from  6 – 7 pm for Boston families.

Everyone is welcome to any of the gatherings, though please note that each school’s Principal will be attending their respective school gatherings and the Boston gathering may feature gourmet flavors!

  • Host a meet-and-greet. I would like to get to know the community in the place where you live, work, gather, worship, eat, and play. Please invite me to your church, temple, mosque, community gathering, sports outing, civic activity, house party or even virtual meeting to talk about your hopes for Bedford schools. Reach out to Erin Crowley at [email protected] with your idea about a meet-and-greet event and the proposed date/time (as schedule permits) and possible number of attendees.
  • School Committee Meeting on Tuesday, August 29 at 7 pm. At this meeting, I will be sharing my formal entry plan, outlining my plans for the upcoming school year. It will be held in the Select Board Room in Town Hall and via Zoom Webinar. Details can be found at Meeting Schedule | Bedford Public Schools (bedfordps.org) closer to the date. I would be happy to meet with families before or after the meeting.

I will be in touch again ahead of the first day of school on Tuesday, September 5. In the meantime, I hope to see you at one of the events above. Have a great rest of the summer!
