Barbenheimer – What’s Bedford Thinking?

There are two new blockbuster films out there that have become an internet phenomenon- “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.” These films are coming out on the same day (July 21) and are about very different subjects. People are planning to watch them back-to-back as sort of a challenge.  

A little background on the movies for those who don’t know. Barbie is a fantasy comedy about the Mattel doll, Barbie.  Oppenheimer is a biographical thriller about physicist Robert Oppenheimer, the lead scientist of the Manhattan Project, who developed the first nuclear weapons during World War II.

Watching them back to back has become a thing: “Barbenheimer.” It has generated its own Wikipedia page, not to mention an entire cottage industry of merch.

There is an interesting OpEd in the Washington Post whose premise is that these two movies are actually not as different as we think.
