An Obituary: Raymond Joseph Hartford, Jr.

Raymond Joseph Hartford, Jr., 85, passed away on July 28, 2023, at Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. 

Ray was born on Aug. 16, 1937, in Boston to Raymond J. Hartford, Sr. and Alice Hartford. He is now reunited with them, as well as all his sisters: Gerry Duffy, Jackie Kelley, Joan McHallam, and Jean Sliwa. 

After graduating high school, Ray served as an Ammo Support Specialist in the U.S. Army in West Germany from 1954-1957. After being honorably discharged, he settled in Everett and worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in the mechanical department until his retirement.

Ray turned his home into an art studio, creating metallic mosaics and robotic sculptures in his free time.

He is survived by his loving family: his daughter and her spouse, Pixie & Jim Cummings of Lee, NH, and his granddaughter and her spouse, Jaime & John O’Grady of Beverly. He is also survived by many dear relatives and friends.

Interment will be private.
