Letter to the Editor: Gratitude to the Town for the Bedford Cultural District’s Music & Arts Festival 2023

Submitted by Jeff King, Sylvia Mallory, Barbara Purchia, Julie Turner and Christine Wojnar on behalf of the Bedford Cultural District Partnership

A hearty thank-you to the community for coming out on a truly dismal day to support our artists, musicians, community and cultural organizations, and open houses at the Music & Arts Festival on Saturday. And sincere thanks also to the musicians, artists, crafters, and groups who put in a great effort to present their work to all of us.

With very short notice, we pivoted from an outdoor event on the Bedford Common to a much more compact (but undeniably still vibrant) festival indoors at First Parish Bedford. Thanks to the administrators at First Parish for making possible the speedy relocation of the festival. Thank you to the Department of Public Works for helping us communicate the venue change and to The Bedford Citizen for its ongoing support and for publicizing the change in location at lightning speed; to the musicians, crafters, and organizations who had to move inside and work within a smaller (but drier) area, and to the many volunteers who so cheerfully helped us set up and clean up in a hurry, including church members, vendors, the Bedford Cultural Council, the Boy Scouts, and the many community members who just asked how they could help and pitched in,

The Music & Arts Festival 2023 was funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

This festival was a true community effort and highlights what makes Bedford such a special town.
