Bedford Resident to Perform as Part of Jazz Trio on June 25

Submitted by Muse Stew

Muse Stew, a jazz ensemble made up of local musicians, will perform at the Arlington Center for the Arts on Sunday, June 25 from 4-6 p.m. The performance will take place in the ACA’s Shaira Ali Gallery on the third floor of the newly-renovated Community Center building at 20 Academy St. in Arlington.

Muse Stew will present an afternoon program featuring compositions by Geri Allen, Alice Coltrane, Kenny Barron, Wayne Shorter, Edu Lobo, and Joao Bosco. Two tunes, Geri Allen’s “Unconditional Love” and Alice Coltrane’s “Blue Nile,” are from the recently published book of compositions by women called New Standards by Terry Lynn Carrington.

The trio will also perform two tunes by Edu Lobo – “Reza” and “Casa Forte” and João Bosco’s “Incompatibilidade de Gênios,” Wayne Shorter’s composition “Speak No Evil,” Kenny Barron’s “Sunshowers” and “Spiral,” and the beautiful “Estate (Summer),” an Italian song written in 1960 by Bruno Martino (music) and Bruno Brighetti (lyrics) round out the program.

Muse Stew is a group led by Arlington resident Scott Samenfeld. The group was formed in 1990 and has two albums of original compositions – “Crossings” (1996), and “Live at the Zeitgeist Gallery” (2004). The group members, in addition to Samenfeld, are Susanna Fiore (piano), Bedford resident Mark Mullins (trumpet), and Karen Gruber (congas and percussion).

Tickets are $10 at the door.
