An Obituary: Mary A. Pine

Mary A. Pine, 93, of Northborough and formerly of Bedford died on May 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Medford and was the daughter of the late John and Anna (O’Neil) Callahan.

She was raised in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School. Mary earned her undergraduate, graduate and PhD in early childhood education from Boston University.

As an educator, she taught at various levels, from elementary school through college. She was employed with Tufts University, University of New Hampshire, University of Southern Maine and MOTT Community College in Flint, Michigan.

Mary was a longtime member of St. Michael Parish in Bedford and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Northborough. She was active in the Arimathea Society at St. Michael and participated in many parish activities. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was the wife of the late Gerald J. Pine and is survived by her children, David Pine and his wife Jane of Burlingame, CA; Maureen Pine and her partner Karen Lynn of East Hampton; and Sean Pine of Newfields, NH and grandchildren, Katelyn, Molly, Kevin and Jack Pine and Braden Lynn. She was predeceased by her sister, Claire Keefe and brothers, John, and Frank Callahan.

Visitation will be held at Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 15.

Her funeral will be held from the funeral home at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, MA 01730 or St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 W. Main St., Northborough, MA 01532.
