“Students Assisting Students” (SAS) is a small volunteer organization consisting of parents and kids of all ages. This year, SAS is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The group is excited to continue helping local community colleges and universities.

SAS is dedicated to providing college students in need with care bags filled with school supplies, life essentials, and a personalized note of encouragement. The goal is to ensure college students are able to maintain a positive experience at school while receiving a little help from our group.

The care bags include comfort food such as mac and cheese and hot chocolate to help the college students during the school year. SAS wants students to feel accepted and loved by their community because it can be difficult during exam times.

The members of SAS gather twice a year (once in the fall and once in the spring), at St. Michael Parish in Bedford. The spring donation drive is happening right now. Packing day will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. The packing day is a great way to spend time with your kids (of any age) while making an impact. It is also a good way for school-age children to obtain community service hours.

Isla Sheridan is a volunteer with SAS because she is a student and knows how difficult/stressful it can be during the school year. She wrote, “It is hard to imagine what it would feel like to not have the support of my family by my side. When I assemble a care bag, it makes me feel honored to know that I am helping someone in need. I believe that our current world needs more empathetic people who are willing to put others first, rather than themselves.”

SAS thanks the tremendous support received from local organizations such as St. Michael’s Parish, Callahan’s Karate, and Suzanne & Company. If you, too, would like to support the organization, visit online at https://www.studentsassistingstudents.org/ or Venmo: @Shirley-Fan-Chan (put a note in the comments: ‘SAS donation’).
