The Bedford-White 8th Grade Boys travel basketball team won the Metrowest Group 7 Championship on Sunday afternoon in Foxboro, defeating Westborough 57-43. Led by players Sylar Pimentel (28 pts, 8 rebounds, 7 steals, 5 assists), Hagan Knapp, (17 points, 6 rebounds), and Shakiem Miller, (6 pts., 12 rebounds, 2 Blocks), the players took the lead early in the first quarter and never looked back. They saw strong defensive play by Charlie Mara, Mason Axtell, and Nolan Borella, as they enacted their relentless and stifling pressure defense throughout the entire game.
The team overcame a slow start to their season by winning 8 of their last 10 games, defeating strong opponents such as Needham, Winchester, and Belmont. Head Coach Greg Mara, attributed their success to “their work ethic, intensity, and willingness to play as a team.” He went on to say, “It was a total team effort…everyone contributed and I couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and dedication.”
