Letter to the Editor: Supporting Ken Gordon

~ Submitted by Dawn Kociubes

Tuesday, September 6th is a very important day in Bedford.  Not only is it the unofficial start of fall, marking the beginning of the school year for children and adults across town, but it is also the State Primary Election Day!

Voting in the State Primary Election is a task that should not be left undone this year.  I urge you to cast your vote for Ken Gordon- a neighbor and friend with the knowledge and experience needed to serve in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Over the past 20 years I have witnessed Ken Gordon’s actions strengthen the fabric of our beloved community- first as an engaged supporter, volunteer, and champion of our Town of Bedford, and then expanding his service to the 21st Middlesex District and the entire Commonwealth as our Representative in 2013.

Ken Gordon cares deeply about every one of his constituents, regardless of political affiliation.  Never one to shy away from a difficult conversation, Ken will listen attentively to opposing views, informing his work to best support everyone.  Ken sees conflict as a path to learning, and eventually to resolution.

Our Town is better because of Ken Gordon.  He has secured funding for our schools to educate students living on Hanscom Air Force Base, for the expanding needs of our Food Pantry, for Bedford small businesses through the Chamber of Commerce, and for the expansion of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in our government.

In the legislature, Ken’s record speaks volumes.  I distinctly remember how proud I felt when the Senate and House passed The Grand Bargain which included Paid Family and Medical Leave- a bill Ken Gordon co-authored.  As a parent of young children, and as a child of aging parents, I was quickly becoming part of the “sandwich generation”.  I knew first-hand that this relief for caregivers on both ends of the spectrum was desperately needed.  (And what a joy it is to see a close friend currently home on paternity leave thanks to Ken’s work on this bill!)

On September 6, it is imperative that we support Ken Gordon in his bid for reelection as State Representative.  This year he is running opposed on the Democratic primary ballot.  If you want someone to represent you, someone that will fight for your schools, roads, and places of employment, someone that will support our essential workers, you will join me in voting for Ken Gordon.
