The First Parish Lyceum, a free series open to all via Zoom link, will end its current season of talks on Sunday, June 5 with a presentation by retired elementary school librarian Doris Smith. For more than 30 years Smith was a familiar figure in the elementary schools, overseeing their libraries and getting to know hundreds of Bedford children and their parents.  She is also a noted storyteller.

Her knowledge of the world of children’s “lit” will provide a thoughtful analysis of current and older -and still beloved- picture books on the topic of race and diversity. As the Lyceum organizers say, “even if you do not have a young person with which to share these titles, come, learn about, and enjoy these books for yourself.”

Beginning in the fall of 2021, the Lyceum series this year has presented talks on a variety of topics, ranging from financial to circadian rhythms to music.  After a summer hiatus, the Lyceum will resume in September.
