Help the Rotary Club of Bedford feed the hungry, encourage education and break the cycle of poverty! The Club’s first meal packaging event took place in 2013, several have been held over time, but then the pandemic interfered. The Meal Packing event returns to Bedford High School from 10 am until noon on Saturday, April 23 at Bedford High School.
This is a fun, high-energy event for people of all ages and abilities.

Each meal package combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and flavoring along with 21 vitamins and minerals. The club hopes to pack 10,000 meals on Saturday.
Once packed, the meals are distributed primarily to school feeding programs in developing countries through Rise Against Hunger, a nonprofit dedicated to eliminating hunger in our lifetime.
Generous financial donations from BAE Systems, individual donors, and the Bedford Rotary Foundation will pay for the ingredients and packaging materials provided by the international hunger relief organization, RISE AGAINST HUNGER.
On Saturday, the Bedford Rotary Club, employees of BAE Systems, and community volunteers will package 10,000 meals – bringing the total meals packaged over 8 years to nearly 430,000 meals – well on our way to half a million meals for the world’s most vulnerable populations!
Rise Against Hunger meals provide more than nourishment. They also provide a powerful incentive for children to stay in school. A major goal of this event and thousands like it is to encourage parents to send their children to school. To escape the cycle of poverty, history has shown that a country must achieve at least a 40% literacy rate.
