Letter to the Editor: Regarding Bradley Morrison, Candidate for School Committee

~ Submitted by Virendar Kaushik, Ph. D.  [Editor’s note: Ph.D. in Biochemistry]

I write in enthusiastic support of Bradley Morrison’s re-election to our School Committee. Since 2019, Brad has been an engaged, committed, and effective committee member. Brad was voted to the School Committee because of 1) his clear understanding of the role, relative to school leadership, 2) his perspective on educating students for whichever path they may choose (college, technical school, entrepreneurship), and 3) his belief in fiscal responsibility. He has articulated and executed on that approach to serve our community.

Professionally, Brad is a faculty member of Brandeis University and holds teaching appointments at MIT (Sloan School of Management) and Brown University.  This strong academic and financial background is coupled with a team-first approach. When making decisions, Brad encourages and considers a diversity of viewpoints, and this characteristic is critical to best serve the various needs of our community.

Brad has made important contributions during his tenure. He played a key role in the efficient and thoughtful process of hiring our new Superintendent of Schools during a tough hiring environment. In response to the Bedford community, Brad worked with the education administration throughout the 2020-2021 school year to increase the number of students for in-person learning in a safe, effective manner. This extensive effort culminated with a transition back to full in-person learning in April 2021, ahead of the DESE mandated timeline.

Most recently, Brad helped garner support from the town Finance Committee on a fiscally responsible 3.5% education budget increase for FY23. Brad was an active participant in these important decisions. Recognizing everything has not been perfect, Brad is not afraid to adjust recommendations to better meet Bedford’s education needs as circumstances change. He knows the school system and his role, enabling effective collaboration with other town officials and committees.

Personally, I have spent time with Brad and his family on many soccer fields throughout the Northeast.  Our sons play together on multiple soccer teams, including at Bedford High School. The time on the sidelines allowed me to get to know Brad for the kind and genuine person that he is.  His detailed and thoughtful responses to questions about his professional and School Committee work reaffirm that he is the best candidate. Given his humility, good judgment, and positive impact within his first term, I strongly support Bradley Morrison for re-election to Bedford School Committee.
